SERVICE: 

$90 Owner-occupied house Service Call, plus other charges that heating and air companies add on, such as vehicle, travel, diagnostic fees, and much more, generally doubling the quoted telephone price.  My flat-rate on all that (Service Call plus the usual extras) is $175.00, residential single-family.  My rate also covers all labor, parts trips, return trips, and "Whatever-else-the-service-company-can-think-of" charges.  Banks are in the service business, so many do the same thing. 

Not covered?  Materials, such as refrigerant gas, parts, recycling fees, and special equipment charges, such as for cranes, recycling machines, or special ladders.  They fall into three categories:  A.)  Parts and other materials; B.)  Government-mandated recycling fees; and C.)  Fees to rent specialized equipment.  That covers all of the "extras" to the $175 flat-rate owner-occupied home Service Call charge.

Before ordering any service from any company, read the "caution" statement after the "Commercial Service" section!

COMMERCIAL SERVICE:

Commercial rates are either slightly or greatly more expensive, depending upon system access and complexity.  Traditionally, all commericial systems are maintained under contract, as opposed to pay-as-you-go, as these systems are so complex as to take many hours, or even weeks, for a specific engineer to learn all of the "quirks" in a specific system.  This isn't like servicing automobiles, which are basically all the same.  This is like servicing an oil painting for an art museum.

[Humor:  "Hello, Phil?  Bubba, down at We-Fix-It Art Restoration.  Hey, I need a service manual for a 1788 Rembrandt, and I'm gonna need a tube of that special red pigment he used, number H295-B.  It's in the catalog as your part number 105076."]

Mechanics and technicians work on home heating and cooling.  Mechanics on window air and appliances, technicians on central heating and air.  Engineers work on commercial.  Understand why?

Not only that, but you need the same engineer, or your costs will be astronomical.  Start over, learning the specific system.  Put every detail of the system on-line, so that a new engineer wastes minimal time?  Yes, that's being done, but how long does it take to learn 300 web pages?  Engineers are professionals; give me a week, but are you also going to pay me for that week?

I have a pretty good following due to my brutal honesty and in-your-face style of writing.  Both my biography and philosophy startle most people.  I'm way-different.

CAUTION: Did you know that many repair servicemen receive no hourly wage, only commission?  They need to find things "wrong", and keep your bill as high as possible.  Feeds their familes.  That's one reason I don't use them.  The other reason why I do all the work myself is that otherwise I spend my entire life correcting somebody's mistakes.  Been there and did that.  Also got sent to jail once for hiring somebody crooked, unknown to me.  More info in my autobiography, on this website.  The complete story runs thousands of pages.

You should do business with me because I charge about the same price as most everybody else, give you the quality of an engineer doing all the work (no commissioned servicemen), and donate half of my income to feed hungry people in Metro San Diego.  I rest my case.

I can also save you up to 50% on air conditioning electric costs with my new EAR system, if you're at least 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean.  If you require a lot of A/C, that can be significant money. 

SALES: Complete new systems are $5,000 up.  Peripherals (a-coil and lines) from $1,000.  Add-on EAR (Evaporation Assisted Refrigeration) from $1,000.  Sorry, no new construction, new ducts, or other labor-intensive work.  No jobs over 50 hours.
