If it seems strange for a male candidate to have a husband, well, San Diego has many gay, lesbian, transgender, and bisexuals in public office and government work.  Plus, the district in question is the Gay and Lesbian Homeland section of San Diego, which is sort of like the Castro of San Francisco.
